Men and Mental Health

Over 20% of adults in the US suffer from mental illness. While mental illness is more common in women than men, men are less likely to receive treatment for mental illness and are at greater risk of suicide. Societal pressures and stereotypes about masculinity can create hesitancy among men to admit or seek care for symptoms of mental illness.

Screening for and treatment of mental illness such as anxiety and depression is a vital part of preventive care, but many men neglect their annual preventive visits and only visit the doctor when they feel sick. Even worse, many men do not even have a primary care physician and may only visit urgent care or convenience clinics where it is unlikely that these important screenings will occur.

At Vida Family Medicine, we believe preventive care and especially mental health care is extremely important. We treat our patients holistically and consider the whole person when making treatment recommendations, including mental and physical health. Our new patient visits are scheduled for 90 minutes to ensure that we have time to get to know each patient and their needs in depth. If you or a loved one could benefit from this kind of care, we would love to help! Visit our website to learn about our affordable membership plans and contact us to learn more and schedule your new patient visit.
